Answer:
Why not homeschool independently? That way other than following your state homeschooling laws, you are free to use any curriculum and schedule you want. You will have to buy your books, but that will probably be cheaper than using a private online program. Plus, you could use materials that fit your needs, interests, and learning style instead of being stuck with whatever the program uses. Good curriculum companies that I have used include Sonlight, Christian Light Education, Institute for Excellence in Writing, Exploration Education (physics), Math-U-See, and WinterPromise (history). I recently ordered some US Government unit studies curriculum from Hands of a Child. You can get answer keys and teacher guides that include schedules so you don't have to guess what to do each day for all them .

I think you are confused. Homeschooling is a way of life. Not just learning at home. Homeschooling is something parents HAVE to be a part of. True homeschooling is just that - School is at home. Teachers are your parents. The main reason to homeschool is to get out of the traditional school system. Real homeschooling you have full control over your education. You have the say in what you learn, how you learn and when you learn it. You do not have to follow a set of lessons required from your local school. You learn the way you want. You are self learning. If you sign up to some free public school online learning thing then you are just following the same thing you were learning at school. No different from at all. You still have set rules and you are still in control of the state. Find your local state laws here - http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp I teach my kids at home. I design the lessons, the schedule, find what will help my kids learn, if they don't understand or get bored with something we together find something new that will work for them. We interact with other homeschooling families and at times kind of have classes together. That is real homeschooling, not getting up and walking over to a computer for class. That is called ONLINE LEARNING or DISTANT LEARNING. So as for programs . . . what exactly is it you are looking for? Is your mother your teacher or some computer. You need to decide that. If your mom is not your teacher then you are not homeschooling. So you do not need a homeschooling program. Next you want a STUDENT based program. Anything else is not under your control. There are many different ways that homeschoolers learn. http://simplycharlottemason.com/basics/started/sixapproaches/ Our family uses the Charlotte Mason method, unit studies plus a mix of a few other things. Homeschooling is a lot of work. You and your mom must work together to figure out how you are going to do this. Also the first year is the hardest.

Vast majority of online programs are not homeschooling at all. They're public or private schools. I prefer just homeschooling...
