What are some really easy and fun social studies activities for early childhood?

• im doing a project on social studies for early childhood and I cannot find anything?? please help

  Pick a few different world cultures that you want the kids to learn about. For example you could teach the children about the Japanese, African, and Indian cultures. You could do something different with each other culture. Japanese Culture: - make simple Origami. Before doing the Origami explain to the kids what it is and why the Japanese make it. - Bring in chopsticks and challenge the kids to eat lunch with them. Explain to the kids how they are used and the proper etiquette when using them. - teach the children a few simple martial arts moves and tell the kids why martial arts is so important in Japan and when it started. African Culture: - bring in construction paper or pre-made mask (you can buy them at Wal-Mart or arts and craft stores), feathers, paint, glue, beads, glitter, string/yarn ,etc. and let the kids make their own African masks. Before doing this activity show the kids examples of some African masks and tell them the role they play in African society. - bring in string/yarn and beads, dry pasta noddles, glue, glitter, etc. and let the kids make African jewelry. Like the masks, show the kids examples of African jewelry before the activity and explain why the jewelry looks the way it does. - find traditional fairy tales (like Cinderella) in the African culture and read it to the students. Read the American version first and then the African version. Ask the kids to find the similarities and the differences and to point out things that were different culturally in the African version than the American version. Indian Culture: - teach the students a simple, traditional Indian dance. Tell the children what this dance is used for in India and why its important. If you know the history of the dance, explain that to the students. - print off a picture of the Indian flag and hang it up where the kids can see it. Supply the kids with crayons/markers/colored pencils, construction paper, etc. and get the children to make the Indian flag. Then put up a picture of the American flag and get them to make the American flag. After both flags have been made get them to compare the flags. And give them the background of each countries flag. - come in dressed one day like a traditional Indian. Get the children to compare the Indian clothing to American clothing. Explain the use for each piece of clothing you are wearing and whats popular in their clothing trends in Indian.
