  • Answer:

Don't worry about the interview and workshop, it is as much an opportunity for you to find out about the course as it is an interview. It sounds like it will be a friendly and not too formal an environment. It does sound like they will be assessing your comprehension and writing skills - do a bit of practice so you can be confident with the task. This may be useful for you http://www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise/words/reading/summarising/factsheet.shtml If you are unsure what you are being asked to do, don't hesitate in asking them for clarification. What confuses me is that you are to bring something with you that highlights a personal innovation of good practice. If you have any work experience or voluntary experience you could ask the people you have worked with to give you a written reference. Maybe a sample of art work or project work that you have done with children could be brought along? Maybe phone them to find out the specifics of what they are after. I have never heard of anything like that before If you have qualifications higher than Gcse's, like A levels or higher it shouldn't really matter. If you cannot bring your Gcse certs or your qualifications with you, send an e-mail explaining this in advance, it will stand in your favour. Order a copy from your examining body and take them in as soon as you can. The college should be ok with this. Have questions prepared for your individual interview to show that you are keen in the course e.g. will there be work placements and what settings can you choose. Think about the questions that you might be asked e.g where does your interest come from, what are your career plans etc. Talk about your strengths and skills, give examples of when you used them. They will be friendly and go easy on you anyway, they just want to see that you are interested and capable. Don't panic, it will go fine. I often get stressed and nervous at interviews. I didn't think that I had done well in interviews that I did for my course, but the 2 colleges I applied to both offered me places!
