I need some ideas for Native American theme for preschool.?

    whatever you do, don't have your kids dress up in stereotypical native outfits made from whatever is around. it teaches them to mock an entire culture and their beliefs. where are you located? it would be best to have a native person come to your class to talk with the kids and teach them something age appropriate. just avoid lumping all native together and having your kids play indian.

Here's one I really like to do: teach the children what a "talking stick" is. Here's a web site that explains it: http://www.acaciart.com/stories/archive6.html Make one yourself ahead of time to show the children and use it at circle time. Remind the children that whoever is holding the talking stick should be the only one talking, and everyone else should be a respectful listener at that time. Then take the children to the table and provide materials such as feathers and string and maybe beads so that they can each make their own talking stick to take home. Continue to use yours at circle time as long as you want to help teach the concept of polite, respectful listening. The children will LOVE it!
