you will be fine you have to be 16 or old to travel alone and yes you can buy a ticket up to a year in advance if you want to note you also get tickets from travel agents too

I don't think you need an adult's permission to buy a train ticket. You can go to amtrak.com and buy a ticket in advance but you'd need a credit card. You can buy them in advance at the station, too. You'll need a driver's license or another valid picture ID.
