Best places to visit in Switzerland?

Would like to visit Switzerland in easter for 4 days. Can you suggest the best places i shoud visit?

  • Considering that i have just 4 days, which places should i visit? I was thinking of zurich, Lucerne and Intelaken area.. Is it reasonable to these 3 places in 4 days.

  • Answer:

4 days is not a lot of time... i am more inclined to recommend that you don't plan an ambitious trip. there's lots to do in Zurich itself (food, art, culture, etc), and a side trip to nearby Rapperswil is a must. Luzern is only an hour away by train, and you can spend the morning there, then visit Mt Rigi or Pilatus in the afternoon (to get that Swiss Alps experience). you can also go a little further from Luzern to Engelberg, and take the rotating cable car ride up Mt Titlis. a quiet, sleepy town just 15min outside of Luzern is Stanstaad, which has the Fortress Furigen (aka Nidwaldner Museum), a series of complicated tunnels dug into the Alps, showcasing Switzerland's military tactics complete with machine guns (that you can touch) and other various equipment -- it's really interesting, though i think it's only open in the summer. other possible excursions include Bern, Zug, Basel, Baden, etc. if you insist on visiting the Jungfrau region, then i think you would need to shorten your visits in Zurich and Luzern. the region is fantastic, and absolutely awe-inspiring with its magnificent snow-capped peaks. the problem is that to fully enjoy it, you'd need to go into the Alps, to mountain towns like Wengen, Murren, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and that's a 3hr train ride from Zurich (each way). Interlaken itself is on flat land, and merely offers you a glimpse of the mountain range from the outside, and not very interesting. to make the long train ride worthwhile, i'd recommend not spending more than 1.5 days in Zurich PLUS Luzern; a possible itinerary: 1d in Zurich, sleep in Zurich, set out for Luzern early next day and spend the morning there, by noon take the train to one of the mountain towns i noted (Wengen and Murren have the best views, btw), and you can arrive by about 4pm. and then spend your remaining time hiking, sighseeing, ski/sled (if they're still making snow), etc. for me, i always do a side trip to Thun when i'm in the region, because it's one of my favorite Swiss cities, though in your case, i don't think you have enough time.

you should visit a little, quaint place called Arosa. i went there for a week and it was too short. it is a sking place with many skii slopes to offer. good teachers if you are looking to learn. It is near Chur which you may also like, i haven't personally been there but i have heard good stuff about it.

Yes you can. Zurich you can do in half a day, Lucerne is really lovely, are you traveling by train? I think you should look at a map and decide how you want to schedule the 4 days e.g. Arrival in Zurich spend half a day, take a train arrive at night in Lucerne stay a day, third morning Interlaken? or Any other place you like (look on the web for Switzerland's highlights).

Go to Interlaken. You can then visit all kinds of interesting places. There is a glacier which has a tunnel through it so you can see trapped insects etc which are hundreds of years old. The Jungfrau mountain is spectacular and the town on Thun nearby is a nice place to visit. You can go to Wengen which is in the mountains and there are plenty of cable cars to go on and the lake steamers are a pleasant way to travel. I have been to that region now for 4 years running and many years ago visited for 6 years running. Great people and the hotels are not that expensive.
