Mad Hostel in Madrid has always been my favorite!

I stayed at Cat's Hostel (http://hotels.lonelyplanet.com/hotel/-P167412.html, http://www.catshostel.com). Beautiful interior courtyard, reasonably clean rooms and bathrooms. Starts at 18 euros a night. There are a few double with their own baths, but they tend to get snatched up quickly.
