Where do viruses on the computer come from?

Blessings . Hi Pearl. Stay away from malicious software, and don't download too many things from the net. If you used internet explores it will block some of the malicious software, get a good anti virus, you can Google that up. Delete your cookies, every day before you sign in and don't leave your computer on, if you are not using it, and make sure to sign out of Yahoo each time, before you go to bed. Because you PC can pick any thing up while you sleep . don't open any suspicious links, especially from people you don't know. Scan your PC at least twice a week. Peace out.

They can come from email attachments. Don't open attachments on an email that says something vague like "look at this". Even if it is from a friend, they might be infected themselves. If you have doubts about an attachment you weren't expecting, ask them before opening it. They can come from websites you visit. Certain websites are notorious for viruses -- file sharing, porn, pharmacy, and gambling sites come to mind. Anything that is a little bit shady and where people might not be using proper caution. However, any site can be hacked and infected with nasty stuff. Be sure you keep your software updated with the latest security patches -- not just Windows, but also Java, Flash, and any other program that might run when you are on the Internet. Many viruses are only a threat if you leave them an opening with a known security flaw that has a patch available. And be careful about what you attach to your computer. Thumb drives can be infected, and reinfect your computer every time you use them. Be sure to scan external drives and devices when you attach them to your computer. Make sure your security software is set up to provide an active firewall and to do real-time scanning in addition to the scheduled system scans.

Don't click any adds or open any suspicious or spam emails. Don't install anything that your software is saying may be a risk. Don't to go shady websites and delete your cookies every so often.

Look budy, a couple of things. 1) Dont sneeze or cough on your computer. Although it might not give them computer viruses, its just plan nasty if you are not the only user of the computer. YUCK! 2) Stop using the free crap like Malwarebyte or AVG. If you are going to do that route, might as well delete them and use Microsoft Security Essential. Or any porn site for that matter! LOL At least not the sadistic and shady one anyhow. 6) Worst come to worst, back up your data files and do a complete system restore. Sometimes, without taking a lot of time and resources to clean your computer, is the easiest way to remove unwanted crap on your computer that goes in hiding and keeps poping up 24/7. PS - Using one or another different Web Browser is not going to help if you are the cause of the infection or if it is your computer that is infected. It might stop new infection, but that is only true if you are up to date on all the patches too.
