John Casablancas is a SCHOOL. Just like Barbizon and John Robert Powers. When you sign a contract with them you're signing to take Beauty/Modeling/Acting lessons from their school, nothing else! Don't get fooled when you read an ad by them or hear their ads on the radio. What they do is teach you how to model and act, AND they teach you how to start out in the business as a model or actress BUT they are not an agency therefore they will NOT find you work once you graduate. Take it from me, I've been there. I took classes from Barbizon in 7th grade and all I got were lessons on beauty, runway walking, speech, presentation, and posing. After I graduated with them they had sent me a "model card" that I was supposed to fill out and they were "supposed to HELP" me get into an agency. I sent it but I never heard from them again. Around the start of high school I often heard on the radio these advertisements saying if you wanna be a model or actress to call a certain number, no experience necessary, and that you can end up in tv shows like Even Stevens and Lizzie McGuire and even in Nickelodeon movies. I called the number and they gave me the address where to go to audition. I went, auditioned, and the lady tolkd me she was ganna give me a call back if I made the top 5. I made the top 5 and she called me back and had me read some lines and kept telling me I was great...THEN, the catch happened! She told me that before I was to be placed in their "agency" that I needed to attend their school first and had some paperwork she wanted my parents to sign and that it was a few hundred dollars per class and whatever. That's when we realized it was too good to be true and we decided not to go through with it because I had already attended a school for this before. Then in my senior year of high school, I was really getting into acting and I was even in my school's drama class and drama club. I was considering taking an acting course outside of school to get into the business and I heard about John Casablancas having an acting course and my parents enrolled me there. I took the classes there which by the way were really good classes, and upon graduating they were signing me in their MGM Agency. The thing was though, that I was supposed to register through their site and keep checking back for acting jobs in my area. That's my "big break". I thought it was stupid and just felt like I got scammed. So to answer your question in the shortest way, No, John Casablancas is not an Agency nor a scam, but a SCHOOL. Nothing more. if you wanna take acting lessons i'd advise you to look up a reputable school, one that doesn't have pictures of super models all over their walls and who dont have a bunch of quotes in their fliers from "supposedly famous graduates". Those, by the way, are false, because none of those famous people attended their school. And if you wanna be a model, I would advise you to look up modeling agencies and go to their website, they always post up dates for casting calls and real model searches. Elite and Ford are 2 of the top agencies I cant think of right now. Don't get fooled by imitation modeling and acting schools that will lead you nowhere. Also, A real modeling agency doesn't ask for any upfront fees. The way a real modeling agency works is that they will find you the jobs and then they will take 10-20% commision from your earnings and THAT's how they get paid and how you will get paid. Considering how much a model makes per job, you have the better end of the deal so dont let the 10-20% scare you. They have tons of models to work with so they make that from each of them lol. If you're ever asked to pay anything upfront, be sure it's a scam and run like the wind! lol ELDORADO also has a good answer. One of the best acting instructors he/she mentioned was Ivana Chubbuck. She has worked with so many great actors and actresses of today. I recommend going to her website for more information and buying her book as well. I would'nt call it a scam, but they make millions off people who think they will be famous instantly. You're better off saving your money for college.

this is the bottom line: NO LEGITIMATE AGENCY WILL EVER ASK YOU TO PAY A DIME UNTIL YOU BOOK A JOB THROUGH THEM!!! dont ever ever ever pay a single penny up front or before you book a legitimate job to a person claiming to be an agent! anyone who asks you for money up front is scamming you, period! john casablanca is basically a modeling 'school' that has invites to some auditions, but those auditions are usually open call; meaning anyone and their mama can audition. do not pay them a dime, and start sending out your resume and headshots/photos to legitimate agencies. its tough to get an agent; i went to many interviews before an agency took me in as a new model (and that was with several professional photo shoots under my belt). a friend of mine actually fell for the casablanca scam and she ended up never booking one job in 6 years, even though she is gorgeous, tall and thin and could definitely book legitimate modeling gigs if she were represented by a real agency. i on the other hand, look less like a model than she does and book real jobs often because of the agency im with. its all about who represents you (and of course your talent and good genes). for models, ford and elite are by far the most reputable, but they take maybe one out of every 200 girls they see (and they only see the best applicants they get); send resumes and photos to every agency in the area (if you dont live in chicago, la, nyc or another big city, there probably are few, if any) that are legitimate.
