  • Answer:

Starting a team is easy. You find a group o people who want to play together and form a team. Your land might be a good place to practice and it might not. It would depend on your goal for the team and how much equipment your team can easily access. Typically for playing at a "home field" your biggest issue is SAFTEY. Serious injury can result from improper use of paintball equipment even in the best of circumstances, but at a home field you are not likely to have a neutral ref to whatch for saety violations, and it is hard to enforce the rules without seeming like the bad guy. Your markers need to be chronographed to insure that the velocity of your paintballs is less than 300 FPS at the muzzle o your barrel. Goggles have to be used anytime guns are live and barrel blockers must be used at all times when play is not happening. Ater that your problem is tank ills. You can set up your own systems but then you are going to need a big outlay of funds. You can also just buy a lot of tanks but again this means a big investment. If you want to be a competitive team you need to practice a lot and this means shooting a lot of paintballs. Not just playing games over and over but practicing skills just like any other sport you have to drill the basics if you want to be better than just average. Do you want a team for recreational play? Then you equipment needs are small and just practicing together will help you to learn to work better as a group and be more competitive. Just about any type of field and or bunker system will work. SAFTEY is still your big issue. You will have to have a chronograph and be very careful to insure the satey o your team and bystanders. Are you looking to enter the tournament scene? This means more cost to most people because you will likely be shooting higher volumes of paint and as such will need to have compressed gas to power your guns/markers. Most tournaments are also played on infflatable fields. These "airball" bunkers require certian skills to play that you can only practice and learn playing on airball bunkers. You don't absolutely need to play with this kind of bunker but if you don't you will not do as well as those teams who do. That means even more expense. It can be done at your home, but you might be better off playing at a local commercial field. Many fields offer a team practice day with discounted rates and/or sponsorships for serious teams that help to offset the expense. Do you want to be a team from scenerio or woodsball? These are a horse of a different color and range from a group o folks who just play together to hard core diehard fanatics who are as much or more dedicated to there style of play than the tourney types. The big issues are still the same when it comes to playing at a home field though, SAFTEY, equipment and tank fills. Honestly I have played a lot of home grown paintball and done a lot of practices at home fields but in my opinion especially or newer players a local comercial field is your best bet especially i you are looking to start a dedicated team to be competitive in whatever level you are interested in. Invariabally in my experience homegrown teams tend to wash out quicker than teams built around a good local field.

If you can get a sponsor, you could afford to rent a place to practice. Maybe it would cost some amount of money to join so that could pitch in for it too. There is a place in Middletown called Grip-n-Rip you could probably rent. Also, I think there is one somewhere in Linglestown.
