What magnification should i get for an airsoft sniper scope?

    Something to remember in airsoft, and I've caught myself in this once or twice, is that your only firing light composite rounds. So real-steel optics can be a little overkill, since most airsoft rifles have an effective range of about 40 yards. I'm not saying don't buy what you want to, but just think about what your using the scope for.

3-9x40. If you guys play a little late (like dusk) you might want to get a illuminated scope (lights up). Its pretty much impossible to use a regular scope at dark.

3-9x40 is probably the best scope out there for range. This means the scope has variable "zoom" capability. In this case it ranges between 3 and 9x magnification though a 40mm wide view lens (Objective lens) Unless otherwise stated the numbers are whole numbers, so on a 3-9x there will be a 3, 4, 5, 6 ,7, 8 and 9x position but not fractions or some sort of granular 3.75x type of thing. As an aside, 3-9x40 is the most popular general purpose scope size. Your friend is right :P Get a 3-9x40 scope.
