  • Answer:

All you need to do is use your drag and you won't break your rod. I've seen 15LB Carp caught on flimsy Medium-action rods. I'd just get something Medium/Heavy in action and fish.

I need to hang out with you! 15-20 pound peacocks in your back yard huh? WOW! A medium heavy action rod in the 7 foot range should do the trick. Ease up on the drag on the reel to prevent breaking the rod. Go with a braid line for the extra power needed but has the lower diameter to keep fish from spooking. Use fluorocarbon leader material in the 2-3 foot range for the larger fish...I'd say about 23-25 pound test depending on the cover. Go with circle hooks exclusively! Doesn't make sense to be killing off those monsters with deep hooking with J hooks. Also look into the IGFA rules because if you have what you claim, you just might be the next record holder. ~good luck catchin'

use your drag ive caught a 40 pound shark on 10 pound line before and also ugly stick is the best one i think
