Do i need a baitcasting reel?

    Many people never learn to use a baitcaster, depends on what you're going to fish for, and where you're going to fish. If you think you're going to be fishing for pan fish for example, probably not. However, if you think you'll enjoy fishing for bass or bigger fish, you'll want to learn someday. Bait casters offer more control when you cast, especially in short precise casts. they also have more backbone for setting the hook. My three kids all started using baitcasters when they were about your age. One other thing to keep in mind, they are more expensive than spinning rods and you get what you pay for.

I use a spinning reel for all my fishing. Everything from pike to panfish.

They are nice and its good to know how to use one but Its not absolutely necessary. Many people don't use them at all because they are horrible when they get back lashed and tangle. If you are a beginner i would wait. They are expensive and the benefits are not worth it for a casual fisherman.
