What bait do you use when fishing for bass?

What is the best bait to use when fishing for shallow, spawning bass in Michigan?

  It's a little strange that you can't get anything on the jigs and craws. Normally, those are great baits for spawning Bass. Have you tried Texas Rigging plastics like worms and lizards? If not, give it a shot. A Texas Rigged lizard is one of my favorite baits to throw for spawning Bass. You can locate beds and what not and cast your lizard right on top of them. Even if it's not exactly what they're wanting, it many times will trigger a reaction strike. Baits like spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and Rattle Traps are all pretty productive in this situation as well. Also, be sure to stay in fairly shallow waters, around 12 feet and less. Bass will make their beds in shallow water along points and any kind of brush or structure in the water. Be sure to fish any and all cover/structure that you come across thoroughly.
