  The ideal weather conditions for going offshore is obviously a high pressure dome, with little or no wind. In late summer you obviously need to keep an eye open for afternoon thunder storms, if you plan on running offshore in that size boat, you should invest in a decent radar so you can keep an eye open for those afternoon thunder storms and find holes in them if you are going to stay out into the mid afternoon. The other option is leave for offshore as early as possible, and then head on back in early, if you get in prior to 3 pm or so, you will miss most of the thunder storms. We run out just before sunrise and fish until noon, and then head on back in, with a good radar, you can stay longer. Also go to the any number of websites (google NOAA or any other weather service) and check what the seas are offshore and as a rule of thumb, add a ft or two. A good weather radio comes in handy too, the main or in most cases, only concern in late summer if no hurricanes or tropic depressions are moving through in the GOM are the afternoon thunderstorms. Like it has previously been said, the seas are normally flat as glass in the mornings, and alot of times stay that way all day. Just remember let folks know where you are going to be, and what time to expect you, pack a ditch bag, and make sure you take alot of water. You can not take too much safety equipment with you.
