Which fishing rig should I use?

What is the best rig to use surf fishing for striped bass in Northern California?

I don't know the name of the setup, but the only rig I know is tying the line to a swivel with a slider behind it where the lead weight is attached to. Then tie a 3' leader ...show more

I use a 15" leader. The shorter the leader, the further you could toss out your rig. With a 3' leader, it's tough to get good distance. In NC, the surf is a lot rougher than in NY or Mass, I've heard of some using 8-ounce pyramid sinkers to fish in NC.
