The good news is there are plenty of ways for your child to get adequate protein without ever touching a piece of chicken or hamburger. Almost all foods, with the exception of some fruits and fats, contain some protein. In fact, a glass of milk and a slice of cheese pizza can provide all the protein your child needs for the day. Protein is an important part of our diet because it provides energy, helps you grow, and allows your body to make "repairs," such as healing cuts. Young children need only about 16 grams of protein each day, and getting that much isn't as hard as it may seem. Here are some examples of common (non-meat) foods that contain protein: • A slice of cheese has 6 grams of protein. A child who eats a cheese sandwich at lunch, made with two slices of cheese, will have consumed about 75 percent of the protein he needs for the day. • A cup of milk has 8 grams of protein. Two cups a day (the recommended daily allowance for kids this age) provides a full day's worth of protein. • An average slice of cheese pizza also has about 8 grams of protein. • One egg has 7 grams of protein. • Even grains like bread, pasta, rice, and cereal contain some protein. The only time I worry about protein intake is when a child is on a restrictive vegan diet without dairy or eggs. If your child follows such a diet, either by your choice or because of his own food whims, you may want to consult with a registered dietitian who can help you devise ways to make sure your child gets enough protein from alternate sources. The truth is that most Americans get twice as much protein as they need. However, if you're still worried that your child isn't eating enough high-protein foods, here are some tips on how to get him to expand his diet: • Tell him you'd like him to try a new food, but don't force him. • Serve him child-size portions, or just start with a taste. • Remember it may take about ten exposures to a new food before he'll want to eat it, so be patient.

look into vegatrian cooking. My daughter is the same way . we just have to make sure we are providing everything the meat would with out the meat. we still put some on her plate and get her to take a bite, but we don't force her to eat it all. (just has to get chewed then she can spit the piece out.) some times she will eat it some times not. Also we never serve her the replacement with the meat or she wouldn't even try it. We have found that besides chicken nuggets, she loves fish, and some pork depending on how it was cooked. Good luck

If she won't eat meat, you'll need to look at creating complete protein meals - consult some vegetarian info. There are many ways to provide sufficient and complete protein for the diet without using meat. Myself, I'm about as far from being a vegetarian as you can get, but I can understand that some people don't like meat, for different reasons. I think it would take as much trouble to get her to eat meat as it would to just provide her with other protein sources. Will she eat cheese, milk, eggs? How about beans (pinto, navy, etc)? You can make veggie soups that have meat in them, and she can eat around the meat but get used to the flavor (or just avoid serving her any pieces of meat in the soup you give her). When I was young, I hated chewing many types of meat because it was too much work or it was dry - burgers, hot dogs, bacon, and maybe chicken was all I'd eat. I guess you could try pureeing some meat and adding that (in small quantities at first) - you could use baby food for that if you don't want to puree your own.

My daughter is almost 4 and she only eats meat once in a week if that. She loves her salad and fruits and veggies. If you try to push it she will get worse about it almost guaranteed and there are lots of ways to supplement protein if that is a big concern my daughter thinks that the black beans and kidney beans she likes on her salad are because they look pretty lol and she loves peanut butter sandwiches which she is so proud to make her own now. but do not worry to much about it just have her iron levels check when ever you go to her well visits just to make sure with all the green veggies, beans, and peanut butter my daughter has never had to have a supplement I disagree with senoyal if she doesn't want meat you shouldn't try to force her to eat it by hiding it As far as the doctor telling you she should eat meat that is not true just make sure she gets enough protein And my son who is almost 2 will eat a steak, chops, chicken what ever you put down and he will always eat the meat before his veggies but to each their own Children are special and there is nothing wrong with them having food quirks as long as they are getting the nutrition they need

I went thru this with my 5 year old when she was younger, come to find out she loved ranch dressing so every time I made pork chops, steak, chicken I had to also put some ranch on her plate so she could dip the meat in and now she eats meat( she sometimes will still ask for ranch but for the most part does fine without it ) good luck !!

I'm sure what the doctor meant was that she should get more protein, which she can do other ways. Beans are huge for their protein. My son wasn't a big protein eater, and still not a big steak eater. Children easy proteins that worked for my son are chicken nuggets, fish sticks, beans, and believe it or not, liverwurst. I'm German so it's normal food for me. You put butter, then liverwurst on bread and he ate it right up. My big trick for getting him to eat something he's aprehensive about though is letting him cook with me. If they get into the process, they enjoy it and they think that anything they do is awesome, so they'll gobble it right up. I don't condone hiding anything in their food. They will lose trust in you and their food.

Give her foods with meat "hidden" in it, ie. spaghetti bolognaise and mince with lots of tomatoes cooked through (like spaghetti sauce) but cooked and served in tacos - put the salad, etc, into different bowls and let her serve herself. One of my daughters was funny about meat - for some reason, once I cut it into little pieces and stuck a toothpick in each piece, she was happy and now eats it up and asks for more. Remember, they don't need much at that age, so a few mouthfuls several times a week would be fine. If she's low in iron or protein, look at supplementing her diet with an iron or protein added to milk, etc. Good luck and just keep on serving - if she sees everyone else at the table eating, she will eventually try it - also, praise your one year old everytime she eats meat and say "Good girl", etc, - your two year old will want the praise too - and praise her even if its only a little bit she eats - every bit helps!

Well my son and my daughter wouldnt eat meat..all they did was chew and tehn spit it out!!! its bc it take too long for them to chew it...try cutting it into small portions..it may look like a lot but they are tiny pieces...or you could substitute fro other foods that are full of protein..
