  • Answer:

A generator is a piece of rotating machinery that actually generates power by converting mechanical energy into electrical energy ie a petrol or diesel engine driving an alternator to produce electricity. It will not give you an un interrupted power supply but will give you a supply once its been started. An inverter in todays world is a piece of elecronic wizardry that concerts DC into AC so you need a source of DC power ie batteries and they will be expensive to give any kind of duration to your needs and the bigger your needs the more it costs. You can purchase a complete UPS system but they aint cheap so a generator is probably your cheapest option. Also to bear in mind that a UPS system is constantly on charge so is costing you money just to have it available.

what is the difference between generator and a inverter... Generator is almost the same as inverter, but in general sense mechanical driven is called as generator and electronic one is an inverter. i am looking for a un interuppted power supply in my house.. Generators create noise, need no electricity to charge, need fuel to burn, create smoke, need maintenance, etc., Inverters are just the opposite, but they need electricity when available to get them charged. They also need batteries to charge. which one should i go wiith.. Depends on you... cost could also be a factor. If for long periods of time, you don't have power, then inverters don't do the job. If you find both of them to be beneficial and cost is not a worry, then clubbing them will get even better benefit. if its inverter, how do i decide on what capacity of power i need during failure... Generally, it is a conversion of how much wattage is being used... naturally invertor is not advisable for AC, refrigerator, etc., Bulb about 60 watts Computer about 120 watts Fan about 80 watts Add to get the wattage... also almost equal to Volt Ampere or kilovoltampere (KVA)

A generator actually creates electricity. When the power fails, the generator starts to supply the power to the house. You will experience a short power failure while the generator starts and gets up to speed. An uninteruptable power supply which switches to back up power instantly during a power failure is a type of inverter which is very expensive and is limited to how long it will supply power before it is discharged.
