I am building a shed in my back garden, how can i make it soundproof ?

Cheapest way I know, is.... Think shed boarding with internal , say one and a half square timbers. From inside cheap solid polystyrene from builders merchant same thickness as timber struts. Then 6mm ply then screw Gyprock soundblock plasterboards to that. That will stop most of sound but will not give total soundproof properties. To do that will cost you large, thats why there are firms out there making awesome prifits doing just that as a science. Good luck. Jeff

Best option is to use some 100mm insulation board foam. It's main purpose is keeping the heat in, but it should also stop sound getting out. However, if you have loud bassy noise (<100Hz) you may have to consider isolation the base of the shed. For this I would recommend thick rubber underneath (>30mm).

If you're prepared to spend money, you can buy acoustic treatment panels. However, I don't think a shed will ever really be soundproof; that would require cavity walls.

You could use some "egg crate" foam on the inside walls and ceiling, but depending on how sound proof you want it, insulated walls and gypsum wall-boarding on the inside may suffice. Also, there are many sites where you can get plans for sheds and other out buildings. Some of them may give you some ideas. Hope this helps

it's really expensive to make something soundproof, you're talking thousands.cheap alternatives are egg cartons, foam, matress foam.what are you going to be doing in there!
