At what age do you start dressing your children up with less cute clothes, and more grown up clothes?

I have a 5 year old daughter who started Kindergarten this past year and I used to buy her really cute clothes, and it seems that now she wants more grown up clothes, which I ...show more

Answer:
I myself found that miniature adult clothes - like little boot cut jeans and a black t-shirt - were absolutely adorable on my little girl and emphasized how little she was better than clownish patterns.

What do you mean by cute? Like my daughter is almost 16 months and I don't do the Disney clothes are things like that. I like stuff from Childrens Place. I find its not too little kiddish but not too grown up either. I like their clothes.

I think you don't have much of a choice considering the 'grown up look' selection that are in stores.everyone wants kids to grow up fast and that's very sad.

As soon as they complain or show a preference for something else. My girl wasn't yet 4 (preschool) when she made it abundantly clear she didn't like froofroo or girly styles. She was a tomboy from then until about 7th grade. And still won't own a dress, nearly 16 now!

I think it's much easier to come by "miniature adult" clothes right now. I get my kids' clothes mostly from Children's Place because I think they do a good job of mimicking adult trends while using child colors and patterns. One person mentioned Disney clothes: I don't find these to be too babyish. Even most Disney merchandise has become more like little adult clothes but with Disney characters on them. I've never been into dressing my kids in overly flamboyant baby things. Especially my son. We dress him like a little man. When my husband sees most "traditional" baby boy outfits he always says, "That's gay looking." LOL. Especially when it comes to the stupid looking clothes his mother has sent in the past. The only time my kids look overboard cutesy is on Halloween and sometimes other holidays.

My daughter is two and she wears mostly stuff like what I would wear... a striped top and jeans or a tank top and shorts (when it was warm), etc. She doesn't wear the babyish stuff anymore, if that's what you mean. She doesn't pick out her own clothes yet. She really doesn't care yet. :)
