Is it bad to use baby powder?

Do you use baby powder? (the cornstarch baby powder)?

    I occasionally use cornstarch powder (not talc) under my son's neck where he frequently develops a rash due to moisture. If I use it I go into his closet (odd, I know) put it in my hand and then go to where he is put it under his neck to limit the particles of powder in the air as most go into the air from just dispensing the powder....breathing in small cornstarch particles isn't good either...but obviously better than talc. My pediatrician told me the only reason they say to not use it around your child is for fear they will grab the bottle of powder and dump it over their face and asphyxiate. My mother used baby powder with my sister and I religiously and we are fine. I just started using the cornstarch powder a few days ago on hunters armpits and bottom : ] It gets him nice and dry.

I never did, but how many years were mom's putting baby powder on their babies before it was decided that you shouldn't? Do what works and gives you baby the most comfort.
