Weather in Italy in october?

Is there a huge difference in weather/rain in Italy between the middle and end of October?

  • Hey, I am booking an Eastern Mediterranean Cruise in October. Leaving from Barcelona then I am going to Monaco, Livorno (Tuscany area), Rome,Naples (Almafi Coast area), Venice, ...show more

  • Answer:

If you go early October, you are right on the edge of the cold, wet season. There is a very good chance you will have some good and bad weather days if you leave on the 13th. If you choose the 25th, you are more likely to increase the wet days. In a nutshell, there are no guarantees, but you are positively increasing your chances of wet weather if you choose the later trip. Go on the 13th.

There are daily averages for precipitation in Venice during October here: http://weather.uk.msn.com/daily_averages.aspx?wealocations=wc:ITXX0085&weai=10 As you can see, the amount of rain does, on average, increase during the month, but there is not a huge difference. While the temperatures do decrease, the daytime highs are generally pretty nice even at the end of the month (15 °C; 59°F). You'll want a sweater or light jacket. I almost always carry a small folding umbrella that I can have in my pocket when I go out, but rarely need it. There can also be some fog especially in the early morning anytime after the 2nd week in October. That won't interfere with your trip and can make for some very interesting pictures in the city.
