    Fund raising is usually organized and managed by a parent group within your school. If you are unhappy with what is happening, call the school office and ask for the next meeting date. As the end of the school year approaches, this group will begin assessing the financial needs for the coming year or years, start planning their budget, and choose the fundraisers that will be coming home with your child. Get involved! Find out why funds are being raised and voice your opinions. I very seriously dislike fund raising so I became involved. I learned that there are things that do not fit into the school's budget and that if I would like my children to have access to those items or go on those field trips, money will have to be raised to pay for them. It almost seems like a necessary evil. I have already been pushing for dropping the sales and resorting to events that call for pledges/donations and events that bring the families into the school to spend time together. I don't know if this is the answer, but I know there has to be something different out there that will work better if we can just find it.

I think schools these days, with the selling are horrible. They should do it, if they want to. They had tons of fundraisers at Chick Fil A for smartboards. They needed $100,000. Impossible. They were going to have 10 chick fil a nights, 10 Ledos Pizza nights, 10 Rita's nights. Then they have it and they raise $20,000. They made kids sell things, they had many nights and fundraisers. They started the fundraisers at the begining of the year, then they raise and raise. Then at the end of the summer, they have $45,000. Then they charge money to make kids go to the school. That is not any school, but it may be what schools will be right. We have like Ledos Pizza, 5 times a year. Chick Fil A- once. Ritas- once. We DONT have to go. We can also make a donation. I take the kids there, when I am tired of making dinner. We go to at least 2 Ledos nights. I am WAY ready to make straight donations, and a certian amount of fundraisers. They should have a program and the parents deposite a amount of money each month for our school. Any one can participate.

My mom would agree, and so would I probably, I remember when I was little I always wanted the toy but hated going to door to door. My mom would have rather made a donation to the school, then to have me sell stuff. (That is why she bought some [ al ot] of what I was selling.

I think you are rght to be concerned. It seems wrong. WHY do they do it if it is not to profit the school? I am in the UK and our kids are asked to do things either for charity or to raise funds for books....but to sell door to door is weird. We USED to do it in the 1970s....only raffle tickets though and nowdays it is not thought of as safe...and if it is only to reeward them with fast fod what is the point? WHY Avon for instance? If I were you I would poll te other parents..voice your concerns....many will say its not a problem but ome will agree with you....once you define WHY they are asked to d it then you have to present the school with a better alternative to their aim in getting the kids to do this.
