Where is the ambient light sensor?

What Is an Ambient Light Sensor On a Monitor?

  • Answer:

The ambient light is the normal light surrounding the computer monitor. Ambient light can be sunlight or overhead lighting provided it is the normal lighting environment. The ambient light sensor adjusts the monitor's screen image to minimize eye strain. Function In most computer monitors the ambient light sensor (ALS) detects the brightness of the surrounding area. The signal from the ALS defines the brightness of the ambient light. ALS Output The ALS senses when the ambient light around the screen goes down. It then instructs the brightness circuitry in the monitor to reduce the display intensity to compensate for the reduced ambient light. ALS Settings Computer manufacturers ship equipment with the ALS disabled. In most cases, the ALS sensor can be controlled through a set of keyboard commands. The ALS function can be rendered inoperative if a light source is inadvertently placed in front of the sensor.
