    The role of a wedding planner is to oversee every aspect of the wedding details. You are the chief organizer. There's more involved than just sending the couple down the aisle. You have to get them to the aisle. You would handle the wedding budget, be a sounding board for ideas, work with the bride, groom, parents and any other major contributors for the wedding as well as the vendors they are using. Sometimes you have to play the role as Sociologist. And would have to help set up or oversee decor, invitations, cake, music, etc. There are home study courses you can take to become Certified (I am certified myself through weddings beautiful). Weddings Beautiful is an association (part of the National Bridal Service) that offers a course. It's about $500 and you can pay lesson per lesson, book by book or pay for the course in it's entirety. There is also another association American Bridal Consultants (ABC) they also have a course. I recommend taking a course with one of the associations. After you finish you can join the association. It's a great networking tool since they both host seminars and conferences. Those two associations are your best bet for finding out more about wedding planning and consultant courses.

There are professional bridal consultants . . wedding planners . . event planners . . and wedding coordinators. Some of them work full time and some of them work part time. Some of them have their own "at home" business and some of them work for hotels, resorts, a house of worship, or private clubs. The first thing you should do is go to amazon.com/ and check out some book on wedding planning. If you find a good book that you like, it will also list all the best sites. One of the best things to do is to get into the business in whatever capacity you can. Carry an MP3 recorder or a notepad and write down EVERYTHING. What companies they deal with. What delivery companies they use. What catering services they use... EVERYTHING This will give you a list of companies that you can use later. Remember to talk to people. DON'T tell them that you will be a wedding planner and give out cards. Just get them to remember you. Later, they will be more friendly toward you if you make a good impression now. When you are a wedding planner, listen carefully, and ALWAYS have an MP3 recorder. That way you will never miss something important that was said when you are consulting people.
