    Ours is currently undergoing that process, we were seeking just $15k for 50 units of our quadrotor on kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1101297082/r10-quadrotor-powerful-inexpensive-and-customizabl hoping to fund gradual growth of what is basically a Maker hobby (we design all this ourselves), but we ended up with almost 1000% funding, and therefore validated a hunch that we might be able to be successful with a larger business.  We are switching to batch production and distribution operations (not mass production just yet), opening up a new branch in the UK to serve EU operations, and outsourcing stuff to contract manufacturing.
