Should I go to India on a school trip and is it safe?

• My school has offered a religious studies trip to India but my parents think it would not be safe. I will be mid teens. Any advice on how to persuade them?

  If you let us know where you are going, we can give suggestions on how to persuade them. If your parents are thinking that you might get harrassed or cheated because you are a foreigner then here are couple of things you might tell them: 1. Many foreigners visit India for both leisure & business purpose. It is not like foreigners are rare & can be harrassed easily. Indians are generally helpful and friendly. There are few who may take advantage but are rare 2. If the school is taking you, then they must have made arrangements over there who will take care of you all. They will tell you about everything including safety precaution. 3. If you want to learn more about religion, India is "the" place to go. You will find people belonging to various religions living together peacefully. India is a place of vibrant and diverse culture & religion. 4. Usually in a foreign country, language is a barrier but in India you will easily find people who speak English. (you may want to call up a call-center/helpdesk to get used to the accent) If you stay with your group and do not do anything silly then there should not be any problems. On the other hand, you will have a great learning experience. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity!
