What are fun things to do or see in Berlin, Germany?

  • Hello, what are fun things to do in Berlin? Cheap or free places to go? Also, places to stay? Thank you!

  • Answer:

For the fun and free things to do: The Berliner dom (cathedral) is nice to look at. The Brandenburger Tor (gate), is probably the most famous thing to see. Near by there are the Holocaust memorial for free, and the underground exhibition (not sure how much that costs) The Reichstag, worth the visit, and it's for free. It has a garden infront of it where you can sit and relax. The East-side galery: Some of the remaing parts of the walls have paintings all over. It's fun to see. Gendarmenmarkt sqaure. Has 2 interesting catherals infront of each other, one is French and the other is German. Checkpoint Charlie is just ok to see. The museum was not too good. I wouldn't really recommend it. Take the free walking tour. They have many options to choose from. And at the end of the tour you can leave a tip, if you want to. I have included a link. Fun but not free: The DDR museum is very good. Lets you know how the people lived under the GDR era. It's known as the most interactive museum in the world. A boat ride in the Spree river. Other things, if you have time: Schloss and park Charlottenburg: I didn't go inside the castle, but the gardens are nice. Potsdam: 25 kms away from Berlin. It was the residence place of many Prussian kings. It has many palaces, takes 1 day if you want to see everything. Schloss and Park Sans Souci are the most famous. The park is for free. Go for a walk in the old town. For a cheap place to stay, check out Meininger hostel. It was ok in Munich. I have included a link for that as well.

The Berlindom is an amazing Cathedral in Berlin, and easily one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It's especially neat because you can go up and walk around the dome and see the city. The Reichstag, which is the government building, shares this feature in common with the cathedral, except the dome on the Reichstag is made of glass. It's especially beautiful at night. I would also recommend the Brandenburg Gate. This is a very old monument with all sorts of touristy things on the inside. You may also enjoy Checkpoint Charlie, which was a crossing point in the Berlin Wall between east and west Germany. There's a ton of cool things to see and learn, and you can buy pieces of the Berlin Wall as souvenirs.

Berlin city tour (hop on, hop off) buses run all through the important places. It covers Branderburger Tor, Reichtag, Berlin Wall, Alexander Platz...and all the best places. It costs about 10-15 euros and the best part is, you can get off at any point see the place for however long and get back on the next bus. (just have to remember the city tour company name). Dont miss taking a picture at Branderburger Tor and CheckPoint Charlie, it costs just 2 euros and it is the best keep sake! Have fun touring Berlin.
