Just a hypothetical question really. Lets say you have on a helmet, leather riding jacket with elbow and shoulder armor, and gloves. Whats the fastest you can be going and expect to ...show more

Answer:
If you do not hit anything probably 200+ MPH. But if you hit a parked car at 35 you are most likely dead.

This really depends upon the environment that you crash in. In motorcycle racing, there are crashes at well over 100 MPH that riders walk away from. Of course, sliding across smooth, perforct asphalt into hay bales is a lot different than crashing on rough asphalt and sliding into a guard rail. You also did not mention above any special protection for the lower body. Racers are also wearing leathers. You would need something for the lower body to crash at speed and not end up hamburger. Best all-in-all to keep the rubber side down though.

It all depends on many variables. Like the guy somewhere above said, you could crash at 200 and slide and get up and walk away, or you could be ended at 30... I heard a story, albeit one made to deter me from getting a bike (still in the making my mind up stage at the moment) about a guy who crashed at 40 ish, they went to take his helmet off and his head came off with it. Now I dont believe that story, but i dont not believe it is possible. It really does depend. Not a cheery answer, but then if you cant handle these thoughts, then imo you shouldnt think about riding...

There are too many factors to have a definite answer: - Quality of the safety equipment you are wearing and wearing it properly and it proper fit. A helmet that is too large won't do you any good. - What type of crash/collision /was there another vehicle or object involved? You have much more chance of surviving if you didn't hit anything and just dumped the bike and skid on the road, than if you collided with another vehicle. - How you land (yes, there are ways to land in a fall that will save you - just talk to anyone who skydives! Tuck and roll / skid if you can, vice flailing all around. - Speed. Obviously higher speeds = higher fatality rates (though the above points come into play) - Your physiology. Some people's bodies can just endure more torture than others can. - How fast emergency help arrives. In almost any bike crash, you will have injuries of some type. Some can be life threatening if not taken care of quickly, but with quick response time of EMS, your chances of survival increase. I could go on and on....

Philip Island race track... off the main straight into a right hand bend at around 270KPH (170MPH) lose the front... slide into the infield.. get up & walk back to the pits.. seen that more than once.. falling of doesn't hurt much... its the sudden stop against the tree that hurts.

Over 100 with gear if you're on the drag strip or track and don't have to worry about loosing your head to a traffic sign or being run over by some cell-phoning soccer mom. On the other hand: A bare-headed woman dropped her motionless Harley at a traffic light on South Padre and died when her head hit the traffic island.

I've seen riders at Bonneville Salt Flats crash at nearly 200mph and without much protective gear because they were cutting down on wind drag.

Many people have crashed at well over 100 mph, better to slide as is possible at most tracks, than to take chances with road furniture and traffic on the roads! Always better to keep the rubber bits on the road though!
