  • Answer:

If you bring your own car you need to be 18 and have insurance covering you abroad. If you want to rent a car you need a three years old licence at a minimum so that makes you at least 20, 21 for French drivers, and a valid credit card. For accompanied driving, which is allowed from 16, it is only to learn to drive so you can't use that option. The person with you has to be 25, be registered as the companion, and you would not be able to drive without him, or without the special licence which states which driving school you're going to etc... and the special sticker to be put on the car.

You can start driving at 16 if you are accompanied by an adult. 18 is the legal age to drive alone
