Emma, I'm from Brazil and I came to the USA as an au pair. I did have a good experience to learn the culture and improving my English. I did meet my husband her, he is American, and my life did change completely. I do suggest you to think about going abroad, being way from you family and friends (homesick), open minded to learn a new culture, language, make new friends and habits. I do not regret this experience but you need to be able to be very flexible. Working 12-18 hours a day with little $ to show for it and no energy or time to see France happens more often than you think. Do study French; it's a great language to learn and you can see France on a spring break or as an exchange student.
