Answer:
Yes there is a tax deduction (I think) for both students and apprentices see this first link and scroll down - you can also go directly to the link you want at No.3 below. 5.3.9. Students and Apprentices A wage received by a pupil, or student under 26 years of age, is exempt from income tax, up €4,236 (2012 income). An apprentice is also exempt from income tax up to €16,944 per year (2012 income). No.1 http://www.french-property.com/guides/france/finance-taxation/taxation/calculation-tax-liability/allowances/ French Income Tax Rates at this first link No.2 http://www.french-property.com/guides/france/finance-taxation/taxation/calculation-tax-liability/rates/ No.3 http://www.french-property.com/guides/france/finance-taxation/taxation/calculation-tax-liability/allowances#5.3.9. Please note: if you work here in UK and get paid for it, you are allowed to claim back almost all of the income tax you paid over the previous year - worth bearing in mind, because if you decide to dive off to France in future for a job there, why not grab some or all of the tax you paid here first? As ever the HMRC have gone into obscurantist mode when drawing up this one. Good luck with it. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/tax-leave-uk.htm and if you need a calculator, here's one created by a gang of junior school kids back in 1999. http://www.amblesideprimary.com/ambleweb/mentalmaths/BigCalculator.html Now I want you to pay attention to this next and try and learn the words - bloody important. It's the best ever version of La Marseillaise - sung here for us by the Red Army Choir - who else? vive la France Moi and partner plan to be in Paris for Bastille day 2014 - we are both pensioners and think this is so French and so very Paris - been there lots of times and fell madly in love with it all way back in the 1950s. Chevalier Piaf You can get an idea of Paris back in the 1950s when you watch this famous French film Ballon Rouge. Hope you are getting ready for it - Waterloo 1815-2015 gonna be big. As Eanne said this is not income tax but health, unemployement, retirement, and other programs you automatically have to pay into when you work in France. So you cannot claim them back. Unlike the UK income tax in France is not deducted straight from your salary but is paid the following year by the victim... I mean, the employee. You won't need to pay anything as two months is not enough to reach the amount an income tax kicks in.
