Your best bet would be to get yourself a decent campsite guide (such as the Michelin Green Guide to Camping and Caravanning or the AA Campsite Guide to France) and do some research. The cheapest sites in France are those owned by the local authority - called "Camping municipale." They don't have flashy facilities but they are reasonably priced. Trouble is, they are few and far between on the south coast.
