What's paris like compared to new zealand?

  • hello everyone. i live in NZ and i was just wondering what paris is like compared to nz. whats there country side like? what's the time difference? when do kids get off school for ...show more

  • Answer:

For a start it is difficult to compare a town to a country! Paris is a city in northern France. There are many other towns very close with no countryside between them so the whole agglomeration is quite large. Once you go beyond it, out into the country, the scenery is fairly flat. You have to travel some distance before coming to any hills. Paris is one hour ahead of London. Children are off in general for two months in the summer - July and August - and go back to school in early September. Have a look at wikipedia - it is full of useful information.

Let's say that it is a bit more crowded. The urban area that has Paris at its centre has a population of 11.7 millions inhabitants, Paris itself of 2.1 millions inhabitants. France is three time the size of NZ but with a population of 65 millions people. Due to its geographic position it has different climates, it also has different topologies, from old and young moutains chains to big flat plains, hills and volcanos, it also has lots of villages, towns, cities (36,000). If you take the high speed train from north to south of France you can see the huge change in countryside, houses, cities, weather... Summer holidays are two months long, due to the fact that France at the time mandatory schooling was started was a big agriculture country and kids were needed back at the farm for harvest in summer. School year is thus very short, and to make up for it school days are very long. 7432 hours of school per year (one of the highest in the world). Not fun. That's 6 hours a day for young kids and eight hours for older ones. For more you could look up the internet.
