Any ideas for a new years masquerade theme party?

Love the idea of the masks and invites. For a theme, if not a women only party, how about American Elections? Or, for women only, First ladies? Another fairly easy theme would be characters from a popular book you know that your mother likes; or from a popular author such as Agatha Christie..or even from a t.v.show,such as "Midsommer Murders".
