Answer:
Hostels are way cheaper than hotels and they're all over the place. Go to hostel.com and find one you like.

I recommend this one : http://www.tripadvisor.fr/Hotel_Review-g187147-d283128-Reviews-Hotel_Perfect-Paris_Ile_de_France.html It's not too far from the center, near Montmartre, inexpensive, recommended by several travel guides... Take a look for yourself. I've had friends stay there who have been very happy. (it's a 10 minute walk from my place) Have fun!

Well, as other people have already pointed out, *hostels* (as in "youth hostels") are the cheapest form of accomodation available in Paris. You'd be sharing a room with other people, and might have to wait your turn in the morning to use the shower, but in addition to the low price, one of the advantages is that it often provides a much friendlier atmosphere than a hotel ever could. If you really don't like the idea of sharing a room with strangers, however, the cheapest hotel I know of is Formule 1, which is a hotel chain. You still have to share bathrooms and showers (though there are a number of them on each floor, so you're unlikely to have to wait), but at least you have your own room. Otherwise, the second cheapest hotel chain (and only a bit more than Formule 1) is probably Etap, which provides not only your own private room, but also your own private bathroom and shower. I hope that helps. YOUTH HOSTELS: http://www.fuaj.org/ (In French) Go to the drop-menu at the left where it says "dans cette liste d'auberges" and scroll down to the 4 Paris listings: Paris Cité des Sciences, Paris Clichy, Paris Jules Ferry, and Paris Le Dartagnan.
