    A sport is, as defined by Princeton: * an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition * the occupation of athletes who compete for pay Which equestrianism is. But the fact that people say it is easy..? So what? It IS easy enough to ride a horse. Loads of idiots do it every day. The hard part is doing it WELL, with the correct form and cadence and ability to get the horse working correctly. Some people just don't see what it is, which is perfectly normal. Not everyone is going to see every sport as something intense. Like for me, football is just a bunch of neanderthals chasing a ball around in tights...Where is the sport in that? But plenty of other people see football as one of the top sports, an all american game. I see horses as a sport, but only because I ride that way. I ride with the intent to train and compete, same as any athlete. If I were just going to trot around the trails, I would be way more hesitant to call it a sport. And that is what a lot of people think of when they think of riding horses. "Horses can jump? Like, while you ride them?" is a question I get asked a lot.

you can't. they're BOYS for one, and they're in highschool, so they're pretty immature. just ignore them. you know its a sport, so do alot of other people that's all that matters. i bet they wouldn't "challenge" you to it b.c they know you'd beat them & that would mean them losing at a SPORT that, they think is sooo easy =)

It is a sport and if they refuse to believe then forget them. Don't bother trying to convince them because they are just being rude. You know it is a sport and that is really all that matters in the end.

ha ha i think its funny that they wouldn't ride. but you should get them to ride. then show them videos of jumping. the best thing would to do would be to get them to ride but if they won't it could never work out don't worry i have the same problem..... its not fun

Boys can be so annoying! Well, who do you think asks the horse to do tricks? Plus, just like any other sport, you have to take care of the equipment(tack). Best of luck!

Who cares what they think? People commonly insult what they don't understand. Next time they say that, say "well at least I'm not afraid of them." Horseback riding is a team- horse and rider. You put in the time to practice and train WITH your horse.
