Texas holdem poker.. luck or skill?

a "luck" play is getting the better hand. a "skill" play is forcing someone to fold the better hand, or pay more with the losing hand. in my experience, the "luck" plays result in far more wins, while the "skill" plays only occur maybe once in 100 hands. My guess would be that if you won say 100 hands during one session, over 90 of them are because of "luck." But, note that I don't include smart position play as either luck or skill, it's just something that automatically should occur, e.g. raising on the button to steal the blinds, or betting with position when nobody else bet.

I only play tournament Texas Hold em, so I can only answer for that game, Overall, high starting chips, low starting blinds and long blind intervals means more hands played and more time to wait for the big hands. These are games where patience and skill is a bigger factor. Low starting chips, higher starting blinds and shorter blind intervals mean fewer hands played, and luck is the bigger factor. But of course luck is always a factor when you have AK against QQ. To win a tournament you must have some luck in these types of races. Overall, I have to say tournament poker is more about skill than luck.

Anyone can hit some cards and win some money in the short term, but the ONLY way to win in the long term is with skill. If poker was all about luck, there would be no winners. Why? Because of the rake! If all players were of equal skill (in other words, if poker was 100% luck) then the rake would gradually eat away at everyone's money until the casino had it all. Skilled players can create a mathematical edge wherein the will make money from other players despite the rake.

If you do good a few times its luck, if you continue to do good its skill. Elementary logic but true.

many people say luck but actually it is 100% skill you have to know how you play your hands, bluff, raise, try to figure out what the other person has and adapt to that to receive the most chips possible, poker is a thinking game, many people don't believe it but when you start to get more "pro" at it, you start to understand that you need to really think of how you play your hands.
