A friend of mine received an e-mail from a company in South Africa saying that they did some lottery drawing online. She never entered herself. They said that she won some money, but ...show more

Answer:
It's most probably a scam. Get your friend to contact the company and check with them if she has to remit/transfer any money over to the company or if she has to give her confidential detalils e.g. bank account no. before she can collect her prize money. If she needs to, then its definitely a scam out to cheat people of their hard-earned money.

Don't even bother about lotteries which you have never bought a ticket. Don't expect philanthropist out there. Never give any personal details to them. They mostly ask for bank details & then ask you to deposit some money for despatching the amount to your bank. Never agree to these things. Don't even give your credit card details.

these are just scams...coz i have received a letter in the mail....with my address and everything......i contacted them....they told me i had to pay money to go the the final draw......so when i whent to the post office to mail them a cheq...the post guy...told me its a scam.....and that 12 other people in our area had recieved the same letter....he said it was a broke company trying to regain itself.....
this is a scam. I read an article explaining that countries in Africa, South Africa more than most others, are seeing a dramatic increase in this type of email fraud. In the article, an older gentleman received one of those emails, explaining how he was picked in their lottery and was elligible to retrieve the winnings. After contacting the person(s) at the end of the email, he was instructed to fly to South Africa, where he would be met by a representative who would help him through the legal process of attaining the winnings. Long story short, he was fooled into putting up his own money, to pay for legal procedures and what not, and he never received any kind of lottery winnings. If I recall the article correctly, after paying for the flights and the money while in the country, he ended up losing several thousand dollars.
