If you go to Sony website and read more about it, it says it supports USB movie play back DivX and MPEG-4 simple profile. That's the reason you are facing such difficulties.

The sony DAV system is a cheap boxed DVD player. It plays disks. It can only send standard def video out the cables. It saves money by NOT being a home theater receiver or letting you swap speakers. With the low price and limited use - you should not expect it to be a computer that can handle all the different file types & resolutions of files that your computer can.
