I bought a dvd in london, england. why doesnt it work when i play it in my sony dvd player ?

I have a Sony dvd player. i live in the US. I bought a dvd in London & when i played it, it displayed a message saying that it cannot locate.. help.

You are in a different region every countrie has it's own regions so if the movie is not made for U.S. customers it will not play on the dvd player NOrth America Region 1 Europe is mostly in PAL format.

european and asian countries use PAL to encode their DVDs north america uses NTSC they are different ways to code the data
