Are there any speakers with an audio input similar to a tv?

    You can't hook up the speakers without an integrated amplifier (preamplifier/amplifier combination) or a receiver (a receiver is a preamplifier/amplifier combination with a built-in radio tuner). The outputs of the TV are at line level (100 mV maximum output), whereas speakers need a much higher power level (rated in watts of power output) to drive them to audible levels.

Hit your local CraigsList and find a used Yamaha, Dennon, Pioneer Elite or Sony ES receiver. It wont have all the latest features but they will give you 5.1 sound.
