    FYI: Red/White are audio a and Yellow is composite video. This is stereo audio only (any surround you hear is simply simulated) and the lowest quality, lowest definition video connection there is. You bought an HD TV and are paying an HD cable bill for nothing. The only connection you should be using is Component or HDMI. The proper setup would be to run each audio/video source into the receiver using the highest quality connection available; usually HDMI or component (Red, Green, Blue) and digital optical or coaxial for audio. Then you connect your TV to the monitor output of your receiver, again using the best connection available. You likely won't get any sound to your TV. Your TV should act as a monitor only. That said, I have no idea what the capabilities are of your receiver. How many and what kind of inputs does it have? What is the model?

Yes, if available, use an HDMI cable to connect the cable box to the TV. To get surround sound on your HTS however, you should run a cable from your TV to the HTS receiver. Your TV should have a digital audio OUT (optical or coax) and hopefully your HTS has a digital IN. Find these ports on each device and determine which cable you need. If one has optical but the other has digital coax, you can get an optical to coax adapter.
