  Blu Ray Movies utilize various software including Java. There are regular updates to these products and eventually you will run across a movie with a newer version than your player has. Most players have an Ethernet port located on the back of them. You simply run a standard internet cable to them like you do a computer and in the menu tell it to do an update. This cable does not need to stay connected all the time. The player can even be temporarily moved into the room where your modem is to do the update if you do not have a long enough cable. This is not guaranteed to fix your problem, but is the most likely fix for it. It won't cost you anything to try it though. Good luck.
