Home Theater Experts Here?? AV Receiver Question.?

  • I am a rookie to home theater, and I was given speakers for my birthday. I was given the Klipsch F30 Home Theater Set consisting of: 2: F30 Tower Speakers 1: C20 Center ...show more

  • Answer:

I would recommend you look at the Pioneer Elite or Onkyo receivers. The Onkyo 1009 is a 7.2, but will work just fine with a 5.1. You can demo the receiver at any Fry's Electronic and the retail price is around $1,300. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on receivers. I have used Pioneer Elite and Onkyo receivers for well over 30 years and never had an issue. Also I would recommend that you go online to the manufacturer web site and register all your home theater products. Hope this will help you out.

Nice speaker system. Color me jealous. The better receivers on the market in the mid-level range are Onkyo, Yamaha, and Denon. Any of their latest units in the $500 range would be more than adequate. You won't need that much power (100 W a channel?), because Klipsch speakers are so efficient (lots of volume at relatively low power levels). Whether you connect everything to the TV or the receiver is kind of a 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other thing. If you have your TV mounted up somewhere and only want to run one cable to it (the HDMI out of your receiver), hook everything up to the receiver and switch them using that. If you prefer to switch everything with the TV and just have the audio out of the TV run to your receiver, do that. I have everything hooked up to my TV and run the digital audio to the receiver, because it's an older receiver and doesn't have the multitude of digital inputs that the newer TV does. Oh, and invest in a good power line conditioner (surge suppression unit). If you're going to spend all that money on high-end electronics, it only makes sense to toss in another $80-$100 to protect it all against power surges. Especially if you live somewhere that's prone to lightning storms or other power irregularities.
