Well, you COULD get a dvd that writes as its playing (records whats being played) and record stuff to dvd's, which may be costly when doing LOTS of burning. Otherless, unless you have a cord that connects the cable box to the computer, then no. No, its not illegal. Just as long your not distributing it out.
