  I'm not sure about in the USA, but here experience often counts more than a raw degree. Obviously it's good to have both, but if you can prove that you know your stuff, can get your foot in the door, and have certificates in practical computing to prove the most important parts, then you can go without a degree, I believe. Get A+ if you like, but also you need a Network qualification. This can be an MCSA, MCSE-type qualification, and/or something specialised in networking, e.g. Cisco qualifications. Some people like to collect qualifications but there's the stuff you need to be certified for and there's stuff you can just google or text-book read on top of your qualified knowledge once you get going. Bear in mind that no-one can know everything, but get a couple of certs under your belt whilst asking around for an internship or to volunteer, and you could do far worse as an entry to better-paid stuff and a career.
