What's the difference between Windows vs. Linux?

What is Linux? What is the difference between Linux and Windows(Vista)? I heard Linux is best, but if it is..?

but if it is then why isn't everyone using it? Is there one great disadvantage about Linux that makes it worse than Windows? or vise versa?

linux is a lot smaller, free, and a lot of what you get w/ windows u get w/ linux...the problem is, its not "as" user friendly as windows (at least until you learn the commands.) installing a program on windows is just a matter of a few clicks/double clicks. as for linux, you download a program, save it, then initiate commands from a terminal (a lot like windows cmd) and direct the installation manually. once u get the hang of it, it's easy though.
