most HP printers come with a cartridge that includes a new print head - this is because their life expectancy is only good for one tank of ink - you CAN refill them, by drilling a small hole in the top (or finding an existing hole that is sealed with a plug) but as the print head is only made of copper foil, don't expect it to last forever. Epson printers come with a permanent (long-life) head - the refills for epson are just a tank of ink (and a special mickey mouse electronic gizmo to monitor ink level and nag you to buy genuine Epson ink refills)
