    It sounds to me like you've had this computer for a long time and all of a sudden the LCD became extremely dark, correct? A few years ago my Sony VAIO laptops screen became dark like what your saying, and if I moved the screen around it would start working. I sent it in and they said a cable was loose, so that could be whats wrong with yours. Anyway, there are a couple of things you can do, i suggest you follow the link i posted below.

hey, can u give more details like what video card you are using, and how old the monitor is. Is it crt or lcd. there are different answers depending on those

1. change your monitor settings, press menu button in your monitor, change to brightness menu, activate it and increase the brightness.. and also contrast as you need.
